R.E.A.L. art by KASM

Street artist noted for bold use of colour and humour in paintings and sculptural works. The "KA$M" tag was chosen as a lighthearted allusion to the depth and breadth of the works. Based in Los Angeles and Hong Kong.

Feted by one critic for a "unique blend of vision, technique, and humour. A sharp intelligence shines through the work which is inspired by Ai Weiwei, Duchamps, Banksy, and of course Yves Klein.". Deeply influenced by Yves Klein and his focus on both flat fields of primary colors and reimagining and reinvigorating old sculptures, Duchamps and his "readymades" and Banksy's wry but pointed humour.

An early KASM manifesto defined an approach to art of "keeping it R.E.A.L" - Reuse, Enhance, and Add Life - to create new works from old. KASM also describes the effect of Ai Weiwei’s work with Han Dynasty urns as “shattering”. Pun is intended as ever, but the act of reenergizing neglected pieces was deeply influential.
